Braze is seeking an experienced leader to serve as the head strategist and editor-in-chief, with the goal of elevating our content program. You will be responsible for redefining our content's foundation, which includes its purpose, editorial calendar, reporting, formats, blog, long-form content, event materials, and digital strategy. A deep understanding of Braze's audience is essential as you will shape our global content roadmap, lead a team of writers and content marketers, and produce impactful, industry-leading event content. Your objectives will include increasing brand awareness among marketing professionals, reinforcing our leadership in the industry, generating qualified leads, educating customers and prospects, and supporting our sales and marketing teams.

We need a strategic storyteller who is endlessly creative and eager to experiment. You should have a wealth of innovative ideas, be quick to implement them, and always look for ways to optimize. Comfort with technical topics and the ability to use data to craft compelling content is crucial. Your audience-focused approach will help you create content that is both valuable and distinctive for Braze, our customers, prospects, and partners.

This role is highly cross-functional, involving collaboration with teams across Marketing, Strategic Consulting, Sales, and Growth, as well as with external stakeholders like partners, customers, and editorial freelancers. We are looking for someone who has successfully done this before and is eager to do it again at an even larger scale, producing a wide range of content including guides, blog posts, SEO articles, events, webinars, videos, and more.

The team is small, the challenge is significant, but the potential is immense.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee our annual hero guide, the Content Engagement Review (CER), and excel in transforming large data sets into segmented narratives that resonate with marketers and technologists across all regions and levels. The CER will be utilized year-round and across various formats and channels.
  • Champion content marketing best practices within the company and contribute to establishing Braze’s perspective as an industry leader.
  • Develop and implement an ambitious and adaptive content strategy, setting actionable goals and crafting quarterly editorial plans and thematic calendars.
  • Act as a hands-on leader, building and managing a content team and event content marketers.
  • Employ a comprehensive approach to integrated marketing campaign strategies, ensuring a seamless experience for target audiences throughout their journey.
  • Recommend appropriate content types for various channels to effectively reach different personas.
  • Collaborate closely with demand generation to develop a measurable, results-driven content distribution strategy, including social and channel distribution.
  • Work with regional content marketers and leaders to implement an efficient localization strategy.
  • Create and manage a “test-and-learn” plan to drive growth through new channels and formats.
  • Partner with Product, Brand, and PR/Communications teams to develop compelling global narratives and messaging.
  • Deeply understand our Ideal Customer Profile segments, conduct audience and competitor research, and stay informed about industry developments to ensure our content resonates with target prospects and customers.
  • Collaborate with external contributors—partners, freelancers, and customers—to enhance our content program. Utilize the latest technology for content creation, SEO optimization, and data analysis; partner with the SEO team to maintain high-quality content at scale.
  • Ensure consistent tone and branding across all content and target audiences, continuously analyzing and optimizing performance. Train internal teams on editorial best practices to scale content production.
  • Measure, analyze, and report on content performance, including audits of existing content to update and prioritize emerging needs.
  • Develop and enforce standards, systems, best practices, and templates for content while continuously raising the bar for editorial quality, specifically optimizing for search.
  • Assess current content marketing tools and technology and identify opportunities for future improvements.
